Absolute Value Tutoring was created with the mathematical expression ‘absolute value’ in mind. You may remember from grade school that absolute value in math means that any number added to the absolute value expression turns out positive. The absolute value expression in the classroom is all about valuing numbers for their magnitude and not their direction. And that got us thinking about how the absolute value concept might be applied to people. We all are working at something. That's 'magnitude'. It can be Xbox or Playstation for example… Success is not only determined by how much we work. Success is also a function of what we choose to do with our time. That is what Absolute Value is all about. We want to take some degree of magnitude that is already embedded in each student, and add direction to get a positive outcome.

At times, students exert energy in a direction that makes them feel like they are not making progress. Young men and women in middle school and high school are under immense pressure to excel. They must do well at school, perhaps play a sport, deal with social issues, and all this must be accomplished as their bodies and minds are expanding toward adulthood. Absolute Value believes that success starts with a change in attitude and expands through hard work. We welcome all students from all backgrounds, who feel that they need a little more support and encouragement than from traditional tutoring services. Longer term, Absolute Value Tutoring seeks to help students change their approach internally, so that they can produce life results going forward on their own.

The idea is not just to get support for certain subject matter. The idea is to build into each student a confident approach to learning on their own, for the future.
